On Saturday 27th April the final for the Foursome Championship was won by the team of Bill Guy and Mike Haslett, beating Randy Jones and Ian Bonython 6&4. After a see-sawing start, which saw both teams hold early leads of one up, Guy and Haslett won three straight holes from the 5th to the 7th, including a decisive birdie putt holed from just off the front of the 6th green when Jones and Bonython were already on with a 12 foot birdie putt that they couldn't make.
This stretch of winning holes put Guy and Haslett into a commanding lead and combined with some solid foursomes golf allowed them to steadily win more holes through the middle of the round and in the end resulted in a comfortable 6&4 victory. All in all a fine effort by both teams as the match was played in fantastic spirit and produced some excellent golf, and although it is the first Echunga Golf Club Foursomes victory for Guy and Haslett it also ensured that a 29 year unbeaten run wasn't broken....
Congratulations also to the net foursome winners of Geoff Quirk and Alan Horsfall who shot a very impressive stroke score of 82 for a net 67, as well as the senior foursomes winners of Ken Fairchild and Stan Whittam who had a 67.5.
