Gross Results Semi Finals: The first semi saw #1 qualifiers Jase Hyland & Jamie Burt take on #4 qualifiers Hugh Griffin & David Spaven. The match saw a tight contest with Hugh and Dave initially playing the steadier golf, going 2 up after 5 and holding this lead through to the 12th hole with both teams playing that stretch of holes 1 over the card. However with Hugh and Dave hitting a couple of poor tee shots to make bogey it was Jase and Jamie who maintained the pressure, continuing their string of pars around the back nine, including a stunning up and down on the 17th hole (and an impressive 1 over through the last 12 holes) to seal a 2&1 victory. The second semi saw #2 qualifiers John Norman & Jackson McGuire take on #3 qualifiers Chris Greenwood & Tony Guy. In what was a see-sawing battle with both teams playing some fine golf intertwined with some wild golf it was John and Jackson who held a slender lead of 1 up through 12 holes. However Chris and Tony couldn't keep up the consistency losing both the par 4 13th and par 5 14th holes. Some desperate play on the 15th and 16th couldn't seem them recover the deficit with John and Jackson closing out a comfortable victory of 4&2. Final: The afternoon final between Jase Hyland / Jamie Burt and John Norman / Jackson McGuire was a slightly one sided affair with Jase and Jamie maintaining the steady play from the morning semi, building a solid lead of 4 up around the front nine. John and Jackson struggled with their tee shots and despite winning the 11th with a solid par they found themselves standing on the par 5 14th dormie 5. With two tee shots finding the fairway it was Jase to hit first, playing a stunning 4 iron to 5 feet from the hole. Jamie duly knocked in the eagle putt to win the match 6&4 and become our Foursomes Champions for 2016. Net Results (David Smart Trophy)
The net foursomes saw a change of structure this year to also incorporate a match play element with the top 2 qualifiers playing an 18 hole handicap match play game. The finalists this year were the father and son duo's of Alan and David Bailey against Andrew and Paul Head. With the Bailey team having the lower handicap they were forced to give the Head team a 5 shot advantage, with these taken as per the standard handicap match play index. The match saw a steady game throughout the day with the Head team building an advantage to be dormie 2. However this stung Alan and David into action, winning the 17th and 18th holes to tie the match and force the game into extra holes. Holding all the momentum it only took the Bailey's one hole to break the dead lock, winning on the 19th to be the 2016 David Smart trophy winners.
