Family Ambrose Day

25/11/2016

As part of the regular Junior clinics we will again be running a family Ambrose day. This event will be held on Saturday 10th December at 2:00 pm and after the event concludes (around 4:00 pm) a BBQ will be held.

Ambrose is a fun version of golf. The rules are that each player in a team tees off on each hole, and the players decide which shot was best. Every player then plays their second shot from within a club length of where the best shot has come to rest (and no closer to the hole), and the procedure is repeated until the hole is finished.

The game will be conducted over 3 - 6 holes depending on the size/ability of the groups. There must be at least one junior player and one adult player per team (max 5 per team). If there are less than 3 team members then families will be joined together. Please bring clubs if you have them, and as it is a team game, you can share your clubs.

There will be no formal clinic in December or January 2017.  If you are interested in playing a few holes on a weekend or the twilight 9-hole game on Wednesday then please contact our Junior Coordinators (Esther Burt 0424 478 960  or Jamie Burt 0418 855 831) or the club, and we will try to arrange something during the holidays.

Club Championship - Results

20/11/2016

The 2016 Club Championships were held on Saturday the 19th November on a fantastic spring day where both the weather and the golf course were perfect.

Club Championships

The 36 hole final between Bill Guy and Jamie Burt was a hard fought affair where both players had their moments. Jamie opened the 36 hole contest well with two fine pars setting up an early lead as Bill faltered on the initial holes. Jamie continued to play well, chipping and putting nicely which lead to a small lead through 9 holes, and it looked like an upset could be on the cards.

However Bill kept his cool and began to reel off pars around the back nine and despite Jamie making a number of good par saves himself this constant pressure was too much and by the halfway point Bill had turned the tables and held a two hole lead.

Entering the second 18 holes an opening birdie on the long par 4 first saw Bill stretch his lead and a string of pars afterwards threatened to break the match wide open however Jamie was holding on valiantly and when he dropped a bomb on the 9th for birdie, finally breaking Bill's par run, the margin was back to 4.

However Bill lifted again around the back nine, nearly holing his approach on the 10th before making a solid par on the 11th, both for wins. Despite a couple of bogies to finish the lead was comfortable enough and when Jamie's birdie putt on the 14th just slid passed the edge of the hole, with Bill already in for par, it was enough for a half and the match to Bill, 5&4.
Final:
Bill Guy def. Jamie Burt 5&4.

Semi-Finals:
Jamie Burt def. MIke Haslett 4&3
Bill Guy def. Randy Jones 2&1

Quarter Finals:
Mike Haslett def. Hugh Griffin 3&2
Jamie Burt def. Jase Hyland 4&2
Randy Jones def. Richard Hill 1 up
Bill Guy def. Jono McGleish 2&1

B Grade Championships

The B Grade final over 36 holes was played out between Tom Strout and Lincoln Blewit. Lincoln struggled to get the radar going on his big drives early and surrendered a lead of 3 across the first 3 holes and although he steadied through the middle of the first nine it was Tom that finished strongly, winning the last 5 holes to take an 8 hole lead into the second 18.

With both competitors playing a fast brand of golf it was Tom that proved steadier over the course of the day and although the second 18 started fairly evenly the large advantage gained over the first 18 holes was always going to prove too big with Tom going on to win comfortably 9&8.

C Grade Championships

The C Grade final proved to be the closest match with finalists Peter Anderson and Mike Stevens battling it out in a very tightly fought contest over the full duration of the 27 hole final. Both players played steady golf with neither able to grab an advantage of more than 2 holes but it was Mike that did hold a slight lead after the first 18 holes were played.

The tight contest continued as the match moved towards the 27th hole but Mike proved to be too steady as he continued to hold his slight lead. With a lead of 1 up a half on the 27th hole was enough for Mike to hold on and clinch the narrowest of victories 1 up.
Final:
Mike Stevens def. Peter Anderson 1 up

Semi-Finals:
Peter Anderson def. Janis Janson 21st
Mike Stevens def. Robert Grinter 5&4

Quarter Finals:
Janis Janson def. Brian Wallace 20th
Peter Anderson def. Alan Bailey 5&4
Robert Grinter def. Jarrad David-Smith 19th
Mike Stevens def. Stephen Dearman 3&2

D Grade Championships

The D Grade final over 27 holes was played out between Peter Downs and Russell Yeates and it also proved to be a seesawing affair. Peter settled the better to start, winning the first 3 holes to take the early advantage. However Russell quickly responded and with very few holes being halved (the first was the 11th hole) the match was quickly back on an even keel.

After the initial wins and losses a number of holes were halved to start the back nine but a win on the 13th saw Russell just get his nose in front and despite Peter's best efforts it was a lead that Russell wouldn't relinquish, increasing the lead to 3 after 18 holes. This lead proved to be the difference as Russell held the advantage to take out the win on the 25th hole, 3&2.
Final:
Russell Yeates def. Peter Downs 3&2

Semi-Finals:
Russell Yeates def. George Beltchev 1 up
Peter Downs def. Trevor Klar 4&3

Quarter Finals:
George Beltchev def. Bob Burnett 19th
Russell Yeates def. Alex Pouw-Bray 4&3
Trevor Klar def. Sean Rowell 4&3
Peter Downs def. Lloyd Mitchell 4&3
