On Sunday our A1 and C2 sides contested their respective pennant finals in the mens Southern Golf Group Pennant competition. After the some substantial rain on Friday and Saturday many were a little worried about what weather the finals may have to be played in, however Sunday turned into a mainly fine day for the A1 players at Mt Barker and the C2 players at South Lakes.

In the A1 competition the Echunga team turned in a very strong performance against South Lakes, winning the day with a 5.5 v 1.5 result. This is not only a fantastic result from the team on the day but is also the 7th time in the last 10 years that Echunga has won the A1 division, proving the strength the club has had at the top level of mens pennants within the Southern Golf Group.

In the C2 final at South Lakes unfortunately the team was not as successful going down in a very close 4 v 3 result. After having some good results to get into the final the team was unlucky to not turn those results into a win in the final with 4 matches being decided on the 18th hole but Echunga only getting across the line in one of those four matches.

Overall the season has proved to be a success. Whilst having more grades reach the final would always be nice the loss of players we have had over the last year or two means that many players were playing in higher grades or were new to the pennant match play format and this should only lead to more success in the future.

Pictures from the matches can be found on the Photo Gallery page whilst the individual results for the finals matches can be found on our Pennants page.
