On the day Don got away to a flying start, opening with a run of par, par, bogey, par with Zelko in the unenviable position of also having to give Don four shots. This opening run gave Don and early lead of 3 up which he slowly increased over the next 10 holes to take a 5 up lead with 5 to play. Zelko made a good birdie to beat Don's par on the 14th however another par on the 15th was enough for a half and ended the match 4&3.
Saturday 15th June saw the final of our Handicap Matchplay Final between Don Beames and Zelko Bilandzic and despite the recent poor weather the course was in surprisingly good condition which is a credit to the work the green keepers have been doing around the course with drainage.

Most members would be aware that the club has been in the process of moving to a new computer system, part of which entails the establishment of an online booking system. This system will come into effect for the competition on the 13th July 2013, with bookings opening for that competition on 4th July 2013 (Thursday) at 3 pm.
In order to login to the system please read the guide and FAQ document which can found via the link below the Member Login button. The system is open for testing and over the coming weeks it is suggested that members login to the system, check their details, changes their passwords and make some test bookings to get a feel for the system. Prior to the booking sheet for the competition on the 13th July all bookings made online will not apply and are simply open to allow members to test the system. Members should read the FAQ thoroughly as this should answer the majority of questions, any additional questions are best made via the club email address: [email protected]. Members are reminded that this system is new to all of us and you will need to be patient whilst we work through any issues. Running this system through the winter should minimise any disruptions and ensure that preliminary kinks are worked out prior to when the finer weather and greater demand for tee times arrives. EDIT: DUE TO OVERNIGHT RAIN THE COURSE IS NOW CLOSED TO ALL MOTORISED VEHICLES BOTH HIRE CARTS AND MEMBER VEHICLES - EFFECTIVE 12/06/2013.
Unfortunately due to the recent rain, as well as the forecast for further rain this week. the course is now getting very wet and to try and maintain the course conditioning the Committee, in consultation with the ground staff, have decided to ban the clubs hire carts from now until further notice. Members who have motorised carts will still be allowed onto the course for this weeks competitions (12th, 13th and 15th of June) however after this all motorised carts will be banned. Members are reminded, both motorised and walking to try and ensure they stick to the rough and drier sections of the course to minimise any damage they may make. Heading into winter and our wet season this situation will be constantly monitored by the Committee and any changes to the ban will be updated here Those who ventured out to the club on the 1st of June for the Monthly Medal competition were initially greeted with a wet day with drizzly rain and showers, although the course was holding up quite well.
Unfortunately at around 11:30 am the heavens opened and in the space of around 5 minutes the course became unplayable. Fairways turned to rivers, greens turned into pools and putting became impossible. This weather didn't let up and in the end the competition had to be cancelled with only a handful of hardy souls managing to finish. As the competition was Monthly Medal, Legacy Day and the 2nd round of the Captains Trophy it has been decided that these will be rescheduled to Saturday 29th June. If it is again unplayable the June Monthly Medal will be abandoned and the Legacy Day and Captains Trophy will be moved to the following week, which is the July Monthly Medal. Given we are now moving into the wetter part of the season some changes to the schedule are anticipated so check back here and the notice board / leader board at the club for any changes. |
