New 17th green & temporary course

7/12/2016

Work has commenced on the new 17th green complex this week as the club has been fortunate to recieve some clean fill via Echunga Earthmovers who are completing earthworks at the Mount Barker oval and will be completing the earthworks on the new 17th hole for us.

This fill will allow us to build up the new green complex and surronding area to improve the drainage of the overall hole and an outline of the new 17th green is provided to the right.

In the interim the temporary hole will be in play for the next few months whilst this new green is grown in. The temporary hole is the par 3 to the right of the clubhouse and will be played as the 10th hole. The remaining holes will continue to be played in order with players simply skipping the 17th green.

The temporary course will be printed correctly on green fee and competition cards with some minor changes to the hole indexes.

There will also be some minor alterations to the course ratings whilst this temporary hole is in play, and these are outlined in the table below.

Treatment of screen on 16th tee block

4/12/2016

The two scenarios which relate to this screen and the treatment in each scenario is different. The treatment that members should be following is outlined below.

Ball comes to rest on the 15th tee block side of the screen

If this scenario occurs the player gets relief from the screen if it affects their swing and stance (immovable Obstruction: Rule24-2). This relief is in the form of dropping within 1 club length of the nearest point of relief, no nearer the whole. It is important to note that the player only receives relief affecting their swing and stance, not the direction of their shot, and at no time does the drop zone become an option for a player in this scenario. As such the nearest point of relief is generally only a foot or two back from the screen so that they are provided sufficient area to hit their ball sideways from the screen.

The screen contains the following sign on the 15th tee block side of the fence.

Ball comes to rest on the 15th green side of the screen

If this scenario occurs, and the ball is at rest within the area marked with white paint, which is essentially the lowered area containing seating and the sand bin behind the 16th tee block, then the player is entitled to use the drop zone.

The screen contains the following sign on the 15th green side of the fence.

Some further points on this area of the course are:
  • When taking a nearest point of relief ruling the nearest point may be either way, ie it may be away from the fairway. The nearest point of relief may also be WITHIN a bush or tree. However once this point is identified the player may drop within 1 club length of this point.
  • Relief in both scenarios is free and optional, the player may still choose to play the ball as it lies.
  • The first scenario is also the case in regards to the screen on the 11th tee block. However as this screen does not contain a sunken area behind the tee block like the 16th there is no drop zone, players simply get relief to the nearest point if their swing or stance is affected by the screen, regardless of which side of the screen their ball is on. Both sides of the screen contain a sign that is the same as the first one shown above.
