What a fun year!
Congratulations to Ben Slack on securing the position of Club House Supervisor following which I found myself filling the vacant position of Captain. Randy Jones (VC) and I have put in place procedures to assist the smooth running of the weekly fixtures of Echunga golf with the main focus being that the ground conform to the rules of golf. This involved focusing on course set up followed by information flow to members on new developments and competitions, either through the Putter or our website.
The introduction of the Captains Blog has enabled the match committee to directly inform members of current events and, importantly, establishing two way communication where members can comment on issues and give timely feedback.
One issue that arose from Captain’s Blog feedback was a request for clearer advance notice for upcoming events. Consequently Randy and I have already completed the 2023 program. You can read when main events are scheduled here (e.g. Captains Blog 13/9/22)
Also “After extensive consultation and a massive response the clear consensus among members was to leave the current program structure largely unchanged. Therefore, other than movements due to Public Holidays there is little change”.
Dates to remember-:
- 1st April 2023 - Open Day 8.30 tee off followed by presentation of trophies 22-23 season.
- 15th April 2023 - Club Championships.
- 7th October 2023 - H/C Match Play.
- 13th January 2024 - Foursome’s Championships.
- Flood
- Pestilence
- Lightning etc.
We will communicate change as soon as possible through normal channels.
Number one on the positive feedback list was which tee we played off each week. After much consultation we introduced the Multi Tee System. This involved some chanes to our IT systems and ground work with new tees (thanks Grounds staff). Interestingly, it’s a 70-30 split between members on their option of tees not forgetting the choice of the yellows.
Moving forward we will be focusing on player’s understanding of the rules and etiquette of golf. This will be through monthly updates using feedback from members on choice of focus, again please respond through the Captain’s Blog feedback. The first will be the permitted time allocated that you can look for your ball, can anyone tell me what it is?
As always please remember “We come to golf to have fun! “
