2012 Club Championship Winners

On Saturday 10th November the Club Championships finals for each grade were held with the players enjoy both a perfect course weather wise as well as in conditioning thanks to the wonderful work the green staff have put in over the last few weeks.

As a result we have a new club champion in Jase Hyland who beat Jamie Burt on the 37th hole. After Jase initially got away to a good start the momentum swung Jamie's way and he held a lead for most of the match, at one point getting to 4 up. However Jase hung around all afternoon, getting his nose ahead late before finally making a solid par on the 37th to win the hole and the match.

In the B grade perennial runner up Tony Guy managed to over come Ken Hampton on the 35th hole 2&1. This was another close match with both players having plenty of chances to win. However it was Tony who held his nerve to win the title.

In the C grade Barry Sparrow had a good win 7&5 over Bob Jackson Jnr. Barry cruised to victory thanks to playing a very consistent brand of golf all day long which Bob was unable to match. Barry also deserves further congratulations as this win means he has secured back to back C grade club championships which is a fantastic effort.

Finally in the D grade final John Mason got off to a flying start to be 5 up through 9 holes against Keith Healey. However Keith didn't give in getting a few holes back however the start proved too big as John held on to eventually win 3&2.

Thanks to all the players who played in the spirit of the game and to the green-keepers for presenting the course, in particular the greens, in the best shape they have ever been, which was also due in part to the efforts of Anthony Evans who got up at the crack of dawn to ensure the greens were cut before play. Finally thank you to the four referees, Chris Greenwood, Greg Klatt, Creagh Bedson and Brian Wallace who gave up their usual Saturday game to ensure all the matches ran smoothly.

The 2012 Club Championships are now in full swing mid way through the knock out matchplay stage. Congratulations to those that qualified for the top 8 in their grade as well as those that are still in contention. With the course and weather starting to look picture perfect there should be some fine golf played over the coming weeks across all grades. Current standings for all of the grades can be found here.
